The Charm and Chaos of Paris: Reflection on a Two-Day Tour.

In the past two days, I've been making the most of my time here in Paris by taking in all the city has to offer. I was fortunate enough to stay near the Eiffel Tower and have been able to enjoy its magnificence both day and night. Today, we did tours of both the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, two iconic landmarks that truly showcase the beauty and history of this incredible place.

One of the highlights of my trip so far was the Eiffel Tower tour. Not only did I get to admire the stunning view of the city, but I also learned about the rich history of this towering structure. Did you know it was originally built as a temporary installation for the 1889 World's Fair in Paris? And that it wasn't meant to last beyond that year? Yet here we are, over a century later, still marveling at its beauty and grandeur.

Another fascinating fact I discovered during my visit to the Eiffel Tower was about the painters who regularly maintain the tower. I was amazed to learn that every seven years, it takes a team of 25 painters, working non-stop for up to three years, to repaint the entire tower. And the painting process never stops - once they finish, they immediately start back at the top to begin again! I even got to witness some of the painters off the side of the tower. It definitely gave me a new appreciation for the care and effort that goes into maintaining this remarkable landmark.

After admiring the Eiffel Tower, I went to the Louvre Museum. As an art lover, I was in heaven, surrounded by some of the world's most famous works of art. However, I quickly realized that I wasn't the only one with this idea, as the museum was crowded. Trying to get a glimpse of the Mona Lisa was nearly impossible, with all of the people pushing and shoving for a good view and a good selfie!  I have learned that If you wish to avoid crowds, the best time to visit is from September through April (excluding December) when tourists are fewer.  But despite the hustle and bustle, I couldn't help but appreciate the rich history of the museum and its collection. From ancient Egyptian artifacts to Renaissance paintings, the Louvre has something for everyone. And did you know that the Louvre was originally a fortress built in the 12th century before being transformed into a palace and eventually becoming a museum?

This trip has been perfect for researching the best time to visit, as I have also learned that this time of the year (the summer), restaurants get crowded, and taxis are full.  I have found it best to walk around and explore the city.  It‘s a great way to discover hidden gems and soak up all the sights and sounds Paris has to offer, including the sirens of the police.

Overall, my time in Paris has been unforgettable and filled with so much beauty, especially because I have been experiencing it all for the first time with both my daughters. Exploring the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre has been incredible, and I can’t wait to continue exploring tomorrow.
